Altai
Altai, previously known as Zyryanovsk until 2019, is a town of regional significance in the East Kazakhstan Region of Kazakhstan and serves as the administrative center of the Altai District. The town was founded in 1791 following the discovery of a complex ore deposit by Gerasim Zyrianov, a local resident. Initially a labor settlement since 1937, it was officially granted town status in 1941.
The population of Altai has significantly declined over the years, from 56,206 in 1970 to 36,360 in 2021. The town's development and economy have been deeply tied to its mining heritage. Zyryanovsk originally emerged due to the exploitation of its rich ore deposits, which became the backbone of the local industry.

In the present day, Altai is home to a lead production facility operated by Kazzinc. The facility comprises two mines (Maleevsky and Grekhovsky), a concentrating factory, and auxiliary departments. However, of the two mines, only the Maleevsky mine remains operational today.

Altai's rich history and ongoing mining activities underscore its significance as a key industrial hub in the East Kazakhstan Region.
