Arqalyq
The city of Arkalyk was founded in 1956 in connection with the discovery and development of bauxite deposits. Its growth was directly tied to the extraction of this key raw material for the aluminum industry.

Arkalyk is classified as a small city and holds the status of a city of regional significance. It is located in the central part of Kazakhstan, 454 kilometers from the regional center, the city of Kostanay, and 611 kilometers from the country's capital, Astana.
The city's administrative structure includes 19 rural settlements, comprising 14 villages and 2 rural districts.
The area around Arkalyk contains six bauxite deposits: Arkalyk, Nizhne-Ashut, Ushtobe, Severny, Verkhne-Ashut, and Aktas. Additionally, these areas are rich in reserves of refractory clay.

Until 2020, the main city-forming enterprise was the Torgai Bauxite Mining Administration, a branch of JSC "Aluminum of Kazakhstan."
